Info on Skydiving in Georgia

Have you ever wanted to know how it feels to fly? Parachuting describes the process of skydiving out of an airplane and coasting slightly to the earth. Skydiving enables you to feel like you're soaring, without the feeling of instability above the ground. After a parachute is deployed, it slows the process of descent providing you with a great opportunity to take in the remarkable view thousands of feet high!

If it's your very first time you will be strapped in with a Tandem Master! Your safe, graceful landing will be provided by this expert instructor who will attach your parachute prior to take off and advise you when to release it during freefall. This instructor will jump with you, free fall with you and land with you. You can feel secure knowing that your life is in the hands of a FAA licensed instructor with hundreds (if not thousands) of successful jumps under his belt.

So exactly how high will you be when you jump?

When it comes to skydiving, there's a an altitude range that's necessary to hit. Typically this range is between 10,000 and 14,000 feet. That's between 2.5 and 3 miles straight off the ground! Limitations remain in place for jumping as the higher you go the less breathable oxygen you have.

You'll be trained on how each of your parachutes are used before you leave the ground.

If your primary parachute defects, the second will automatically deploy. The back up parachute NEVER fails. It is launched using what is known as a AAD or automatic activation device that detects a low altitude without the main parachute and instantly deploys to permit your safe landing. Often in specialist training, skydivers can practice and learn the launch times of a parachute while being tethered to the airplane. This method of parachute instruction is referred to as "Static line jumping" and is similar to bungee jumping, but you are high in the air rather than on a stationary structure.

Popular Skydiving Aircraft

Light planes such as the Cessna and Otter are used most often for skydiving. These planes can accommodate a range of skydivers from as few as 4 to as many as 28. Nevertheless, light sport aircraft predominately are used for jumping as they are much quicker than commercial airplanes, often taking a load of skydivers up every 15 to 20 minutes!

Depending on the power of the engine, it could take as little as 10 or 20 minutes to hit diving height. Unsurprisingly, the size of the engine determines how quickly it gets up to this point. The faster planes, like the King Airs with PT6A-20 engines, are regarded as the fastest in the world in their ascent.

Not only do these aircraft ascend swiftly, they can hold up to 15 people. {The King Airs, however, are only the second most popular aircraft used for diving.} The most prominent dual and solo engine planes for skydivers are the Havilland Canada DHC-6-Twin Otter, and the Pacific Aerospace PAC P-750 XSTOL, respectively. Whether piston-powered or turbine-powered, aircraft optimized for skydivers have wide doors. Turbine and piston-powered planes are separated by a key difference: turbine planes are lighter in weight and use their fuel more efficiently. While they offer a similar horsepower as a typical piston engine, crafts with turbine engines are typically more expensive.
